Prescriptions
The Prescriptions functionality of the AMCIS Network is unlike other typical EMR systems. Our prescription capabilities are designed for efficiency, ease-of-use and interconnectedness.

For example:
  1. Incoming prescription requests from pharmacies or patients appear on the provider's home page.
  2. With one click, the provider can enter the patient's medical record and electronically view:
    1. the requested medications
    2. all active medications
    3. the date each active medication was last prescribed, and
    4. the expected date of renewal(s)
    5. In addition, the provider can see the date of the patient's last and next appointment.
  3. All prescription fields, including dose, quantity, directions, etc. can be adjusted from the same screen for multiple drugs.
  4. With a second click the prescription can be sent electronically to the pharmacy via the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange (PHIE).
  5. In addition, the patient is automatically sent an email notifying them that their prescription has been sent to their pharmacy of choice.
  6. Lastly, the active medication list is automatically updated.
If you would prefer that your Nurse writes some prescriptions, then it can be submitted by him/her as a verbal order. If verbal orders have been made, a notice appears on your home page and you can quickly confirm all verbal orders.

For providers who write many prescriptions daily and who know their patients well, there is the quick-sign feature. From your home page, you can view all incoming prescription requests on a single page and sign each one with a single click. When these prescriptions are submitted they are each sent to the appropriate pharmacies.

If a pharmacy is not connected to the PHIE, it will not be a problem. AMCIS automatically sends the prescription as a fax for non-connected pharmacies. To the user, the process is seamless.

Dr. Dormois, a Cardiologist in Tampa, FL who uses AMCIS, describes using the prescription system as "enjoyable". He states that it takes significantly less time than writing paper prescriptions.
