Appointment scheduling with AMCIS is not just e-mailing back and forth between your patient and staff; AMCIS provides true appointment scheduling.
Based on rules setup by the practice, patients can schedule their appointments online much in the same way that airplane reservations are made. For example, the patient:
- selects their preferred appointment date and period of the day (am, pm, etc.),
- enters the reason for the appointment and a description, and
- selects the appropriate appointment type based on what the practice has set up.
- Next, the next available date or appointment time slot is presented to the patient.
- In addition, the patient can choose alternate providers as determined by the practice in advance.
The practice can set up very specific criteria for each appointment type such as:
- duration of the appointment
- maximum number of appointments in the day
- minimum number of minutes between appointments
- if the appointment is online and if so when
- if new patients can schedule the appointment
- how many days in advance the appointment can be scheduled
Each time a patient schedules an appointment online, a communication is sent to the secretary/receptionist so that s/he can review the appointment and reason and if necessary decline the appointment.
There is no interference between staff and patient's scheduling the appointment. No two appointments can be scheduled in the same time slot at the same time.
The feature is very satisfying to patients - particularly when they can schedule appointments during lunch hour, evenings and on weekends. It also dramatically reduces phone calls to the office.
AMCIS automatically sends an email reminder to patients 2 days prior to their appointments. Results have shown that patients are two times as likely to show up for appointments that they scheduled online themselves.
